The Malwan (Malvan) Trip- In Monsoons

 

I visited Malwan in Monsoons with my friend Avadhoot. Avadhoot himself is a Malwani Manoos . That proved out to be a great favour for me.

Malwan has a lazy elegance attached to it. The lazy elegance comes from the fact that Malwan is so very well gifted with natural resource (Fishes, Cashew, the Alphonso Mangoes, Coconut, Kokum berries).

The Malwan is home to one of the most beautiful back waters river.

The life in Malwan is as close as it gets with the Nature. Even the Ganesh Idols for the Ganesh Festival are made by Mud, and not Plaster of Paris (I call it Plaster of India).

I Spoke with these creators of the god In my tuti Phuti Marathi (My breaking Marathi). My basic anxiety was to know that what do they do during the other time of the year? They informed me that they go on fishing trailers and also do Kokum farming during other 8 non monsoon months. And to take care of their livelihood Lord Ganesh comes to their rescue.

This is a Ganesh Temple which visited in Malwan and trust me that Image of this Idol is going to be etched in my mind forever.

I still believe that my camera was not able to capture even a half of the beauty that the scenes over their offered.

Nature in full swing - Western Ghats

The forests in Western Ghats offer a wide range wild life. The Ghats are home to some of the rare species and hold distinction of having these species in abundance.

The Eurasian Sparrow hawks are migratory birds. They visit India in monsoons and winters. They mostly feed on birds and reptiles.This Yellow eyed hawk was looking at me and when I was just about to click the shutter she lifted a leg in such grace as if she was ready foe the pose.

The Langoors and the the red faced monkeys are very common through out the Ghats and they are Camera friendly as well. They prefer to give poses while taking a Snap. 

When I visited the Ghats it was breeding season and I could see a lot of young off springs. The ape breeding was specially in full swing.

The Koyna Back water Experience

The Koyna Dam is one of the biggest dams in Maharashtra. The Backwaters of Koyna are home to some of the most scenic land-scapes in India.



The back waters are formed by the water that cascades down the slopes of the the Western Ghats. The Water falls just mesmerizes and lets us spell bound by their Purity and divinity.The Waterfalls in Koyna come in all sizes, Small, Not so small, Big, and Ultra Big.












The Scenic land-scapes of Koyna also offers a visual treat for Insect and butterfly lovers. I tried hard to capture Big and beautiful butterflies but success always eluded me as were the butterflies.

Hiking in Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary

On August 15th 2009, I visited Radhanagari Wild life Sanctuary. When I left Kolhapur it was bright hot and steaming out there. But I was quite sure that the rain gods are not going to cheat me in the Western Ghats.

The Ghats are one of the very few bio diversity hot spots remaining on the wild life map of man kind.

The ghats are home to some of the rare species of flora and (specifically amphibians) are limited only to the ghats.

I got the glimpse of a lizard which was taking a sun bath. I was amazed to see the camouflage of that lizard.

In all from Sunrise to Sun set both the flora and fauna kept me amusing by my self.
